This year Volunteer Appreciation Week was celebrated during the week of April 15-21. We got the opportunity to show our gratitude to our volunteer team thanks to the support of local businesses and organizations. Their valuable donations made the entire week a success and contributed to strengthening the sense of community.
Volunteers Grow Community remained the theme for NVW this year.
And again, it proved true thanks to our committed volunteers and the invaluable support of the following businesses:
- Caldense Bakery (Crossroads)
- Caldense Bakery (Westside Mall)
- Canadian Tire (Stockyards)
- Carolina Beauty Centre (Weston Road & Dennis Avenue)
- Deni's Food Basics (Jane Park Plaza)
- Far East Food Products Ltd. (Richmond Hill)
- J.B. Christopher (Barrie)
- Lino's Dairy Queen (1591 Weston Rd)
- Medical Group Pharmacy (98 Guestville Ave.)
- Pizza Pizza (Jane Park Plaza)
- Real Canadian Superstore (Weston Road)
- Shoppers Drug Mart (Jane & Trethewey)
- The Old Spaghetti Factory (The Esplanade)
- Wal*Mart (Stockyards)
- Weston Bakeries Ltd. (The Queensway)
We would like to particularly thank Wij, from Magicana, who dazzled us all with a wonderfully magical performance during our Volunteer Appreciation Barbeque.

How do I become a volunteer?
- Complete a Volunteer Application Form, including character references (Also available by mail or at the office). Please note that our screening process now includes a Police Records Check.
- The Volunteer Services Coordinator will contact you to schedule an in-person interview if we are recruiting for the position you have applied for. The interview, which takes about 30 to 60 minutes, is an opportunity to explore your skills, interests and experience, and determine the most suitable assignment. If the coordinator has no assignments that are appropriate for you, you will be referred elsewhere.
- Once your interview is completed and satisfactory reference checks occur, a conditional offer for the volunteer position is extended, and orientation will begin.
- Complete the Police Records Check Consent Form, and provide a legible copy of photo identification.
- Once positive results from the Police Records Check are received, a firm volunteer position offer will be made.
